Shiloe, Mellowdrone and theSTART @ the Troubadour

Los Angeles-based post-punk group Shiloe are set to open for psychedelic trio Mellowdrone and indie glam group theSTART at the Troubadour, one of Hollywood’s most prestigious clubs, on Saturday, December 12th. Orange County post-punkers Cat Party round out the strong local bill.

Shiloe, who are currently at work on their debut full-length to be released in early 2010, have been making waves with their new single, “By the Daggers in Your Eyes.” The song, which combines a driving beat and pulsing distorted bass line with instantly memorable lyrics and vocal melodies, has been described as “the ideal anthem for the edgiest movie John Hughes never made.” The track entered the Triple A SubModern radio charts at #11 – the highest debut for any self-released single that week – and continued in the Top 25 for several subsequent weeks. Prominent local supporters include KROQ’s Kat Corbett and KCRW’s Nic Harcourt, who wrote of the band, “Fuzzy sharp riffs bring My Bloody Valentine to mind, but have no doubt Shiloe are doing their own thing.” Shiloe was also recently selected as the Deli Magazine’s “Band of the Month” in an online reader’s poll, and their recent appearance at the Troubadour opening for San Antonio’s Girl in a Coma garnered “the best [turnout]…for an opening band in my history of going to L.A. shows” according to Jim Markunas, editor of CWG Magazine.

Mellowdrone will be playing in support of their second full-length, Angry Bear, released in August, which L.A. Record has called “rich and thick with heavy lo-fi goodness. …their definitive album.” Headliners theSTART, who have shared the stage with artists ranging from Weezer to Garbage to She Wants Revenge, will be showcasing their signature brand of “decadent yet insistent…ballsy synth-based sound” (Subbacultcha Magazine), most recently heard on their 2007 album Ciao, Baby. Cat Party, who have been described as “rockin’ and a little quirky” by Thrasher Magazine, will be opening the night at 8 PM sharp.

Tickets for the show are available directly from the Troubadour or via Ticketmaster.
