America, meet "Volbeat" of Denmark

<!– @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } A:link { so-language: zxx } –They are arguably the biggest heavy band in Denmark. They have been playing shows in excess of 10,000 people for several years now. They have opened on tour for such metal Gods as Metallica and Megadeth.

While they are heavy, they are also incredibly unique. Singer and founder Michael Poulson has channeled the inspiration of vocalists like Elvis Presley, Little Richard and Johnny Cash. He brings to the band a style and flair that I’ve never heard before. I’ve actually never heard anything remotely like this band. He inserts his vocal originality over top of trademark machine gun guitars and other elements of metal. Imagine for a moment Elvis Presley singing Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.” Now you’re starting to get the picture.

Having formed “Dominus” in the early 1990’s and having that band run its’ course, Michael created Volbeat. In Volbeat he is able to pay homage to his vocal heroes, while creating a powerful sound and style of his own.

The result to this point is three incredible albums, a spot opening up for Metallica on the World Magnetic tour, and legions of fans drawn to the unique power and style of the band.

I got to catch up with Michael Poulson recently. Listen here to the podcast of our conversation.
